Seaplane Lagoon Waterfront Park Opens

The first phase of the waterfront park on the north side of the Seaplane Lagoon at Alameda Point opened for public use on Monday, January 31, 2022. Moments after the construction fencing came down, people began enjoying the new park. The park was built by the developer of the adjacent mixed-use area, Alameda Point Partners. Future phases will be built by other developers.

The park is located at the intersection of West Atlantic Avenue and Ferry Point Road. The park is designed in tiers, with the highest elevation serving as part of the planned levee system that will one day surround the built environment to protect it from sea level rise. The lower level next to the water is expected to eventually become inundated with water.

Specially designated parking spaces for waterfront visitors are available at the nearby parking lot for the passenger ferry terminal. The City of Alameda is at the beginning stages of naming the park, with a survey on the city’s website .
